Orie Rogo Manduli was a renowned Kenyan politician and the first woman rally driver in Kenya. She was majorly recognized for her big head scarfs and her way of dressing which was majorly the African style. She was the first Kenyan woman participant in the East African Safari Rally in the years 1974 and 1975.
She first worked as a personal assistant to the then Kenya Railways and Harbor Corporation general manager P.J Mwangola in 1973. In 1974, she served as an administrative manager assistant at the Coffee Board of Kenya. At that particular time, she was also a television host for KBC Manbo Leo and Women’s World concurrently. It was at that time that her interest in safari rallies after an interview with the drivers.
In the course of her career, she served in the National Council of Non-Governmental Organisations, a representative at the International Council of Women’s council to the United Nations Environment Programme and Habitat. At the tender age of 16 years, while still in secondary school, she won the Miss Kenya beauty pageant.
She went to study at Ng’iya Girls High School then proceeded to Butere Girls and finally Machakos Girls. She also attended Machakos Teachers College and went to Canada and pursued and graduated with a diploma in office management.

She was born Mary Orie Rogo in Maseno, Nyanza Region, Kenya in 1948. She died on September 8, 2021, in Nairobi, Kenya. She was 73 years.
Orie Rogo Manduli Husband
She was married twice. She got married to her Zambian husband Norman Manduli in 1980 and changed her name to Orie Rogo Manduli. Manduli was a politician and a businessman in Lusaka but worked right across Africa. Norman died in 2003. At first, she was married to her ex-husband Mr. Ondieki in the 70s but their marriage was dissolved after five years.

She was the daughter of Gordon Rogo and Zeruiah Adhiambo who were both educators. Her father was a headmaster and later a councilor while her mother taught at the Kisumu Technical College.
Orie Rogo Manduli Death
She died on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at her Riverside home in Nairobi. She was aged 73. According to her personal Assistant Samuel Ndambuki, Manduli passed on as they prepared to go for a dental checkup. “We had gone for a checkup at Nairobi Hospital yesterday [Tuesday]. This morning we visited her brother at Embakasi and she was very normal. We had a dental appointment this afternoon and as she was doing her makeup, I noticed she leaned on one side,” Ndambuki said.
Manduli had been admitted at Nairobi hospital in July this year with kidney complications and was discharged a month later, Ndambuki told The Standard in a phone interview.
She was mourned by various Kenyan leaders including her friend and family. “It is sad and unfortunate that death has taken away Mama Orie Rogo Manduli, one of our country’s most recognizable, highly charismatic, and accomplished politicians. A bold leader and mentor, Ms. Manduli tirelessly championed for women empowerment,” the President mourned.
Senator James Orengo said Manduli was a luminary in women’s rights, African Fashion, politics, governance, and democracy has rested. “Orie Rogo Manduli will forever be remembered for how multilayered she was,” he said.
She will be buried at Tondorie Estate, Kitale, Kenya on Saturday, October 9, 2021.
