Badi Muhsin was a veteran Kenyan Swahili broadcaster who worked for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) from 1980 until his retirement in 2002. He hosted the prime-time news on KBC for more than two decades before his retirement. He later made his way back to KBC in 2020. He went back to KBC to co-host another show.
He is famed for his Kiswahili show on Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) ‘Dira ya Dunia.’ Until his death, Muhsin was one of Kenya’s longest-serving Kiswahili news anchors, having worked for over 30 years.
He was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) award in 2011 by retired President Mwai Kibaki, for his long service in the media industry.

Muhsin died at a Mombasa Hotel on Friday afternoon at around 4.00 pm on October 8, 2021. He was aged 67. His family confirmed his death. According to The Standard, a relative who spoke to the news outlet said that Muhsin had just finished his Friday prayers, took lunch, and returned to his hotel room, where he then complained of feeling unwell.
“He called a friend to say he was unwell. When the friend asked if he could take him [Badi] to the hospital, he declined saying he would be okay,” Nassor told The standard via telephone.
Shortly after, his friend returned to the room to find Badi fast asleep. It was later established that he had died.
His death dealt a blow to the Kenyan nation, with journalists, politicians, corporates, and fans taking to social media with condolences messages to his family and friends.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho said in a Tweet: “Today’s Friday is shrouded in deep sadness as we mourn the passing on of our brother Badi Muhsin, OGW. The late Badi was indeed a national treasure and revered by many across the country for his exemplary standards of journalism and his charming personality.
