Larry Kudlow is an American conservative television personality and financial program host for the Fox network. He was a former television host, financial analyst, conservative economist, and newspaper columnist. He has been the Director of the National Economic Council under President Donald Trump from 2018 to 2021. His career began by being a junior financial analyst at the New York Federal Reserve. He then went to work on Wall Street at Paine Webber and Bear Stearns as a financial analyst after leaving the government. In 1981, he was part of Ronald Reagan’s administration serving as an associate director for economics and planning in the Office of Management and Budget.

He then left Reagan Administration in the second term and went back to Wall Street and Bear Stearns. He worked at the firm as chief economist from 1987 to 1994. In that period, he gave advice to the gubernatorial campaign of Christine Todd Whitman on matters relating to economics. After a publicized battle with drug addiction (cocaine and alcohol) in the late 1990s, he left Wall Street. He went ahead to be an economic media commentator with National Review, and later on the host of several shows on CNBC. He returned to politics in 2018 and replaced Gary Cohn‘s at National Economic Council.

Kudlow has served as one of the rotating set of hosts on the CNBC show America Now, which started airing in November 2001. The show was renamed Kudlow & Cramer in May 2002, and Kudlow and Jim Cramer became the permanent hosts. When Cramer left to host his own show, Mad Money, and the program’s name was changed the next month to Kudlow & Company in January 2005. Kudlow & Company went on hiatus in October 2008 and returned in January 2009 as The Kudlow Report. The show ended its run on CNBC in March 2014. He added co-anchor of CNBC’s The Call to his responsibilities in late 2008. He is also a regular guest on Squawk Box. He has contributed to CNBC.com on MSN. He then appeared on The John Batchelor Show as a co-host on Tuesdays and as a substitute, until leaving those duties to become an economics advisor to President Trump. He began to host a talk radio show on politics and economics on WABC in March 2006. The Larry Kudlow show aired on Saturday mornings from 10 am to 1 pm ET and via nationwide syndication in the US starting June 5, 2010. He has also contributed to the Wall Street Journal, the Cato Journal of the Cato Institute, the Washington Times, and the City Journal of the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, as well as the television show The McLaughlin Group, and has appeared as a guest on The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and on Wall Street Week.

He studied at the private Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood, New Jersey until his 6th grade. He then joined the Dwight-Englewood School from the second half of middle school to high school. In 1969, he graduated from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, with a degree in history. He was also a tennis team star and a member of the left-wing Students for a Democratic Society at Rochester. He enrolled at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1971. While there, he studied politics and economics. He did not finish his master’s degree.
