Shelley Brien is best known as the wife of the late Mark Lanegan who was an American singer, songwriter, author, and musician. The singer and songwriter was known as the lead vocalist for Screaming Trees as well as being part of Queens of the Stone Age. He released eleven solo studio albums, as well as three collaboration albums with Isobel Campbell and two with Duke Garwood. Lanegan was known for his baritone voice, which was described as being “as scratchy as a three-day beard yet as supple and pliable as moccasin leather.” He passed away on February 22, 2022, at his home in Ireland. He was 57 years.
Her late husband started his musical career in 1984 as the frontman of the psychedelic grunge band Screaming Trees, with whom he released seven studio albums and five EPs before they split up in 2000. During his time in the band, he also began a solo career and released his first solo studio album, The Winding Sheet, in 1990. Sometimes I have trouble with the high voice accent, but I’m learning…”
The late Lanegan said he thrived in lockdown, entering a prolific period of writing lyrics, poetry, and music, until the morning he awoke completely deaf and unable to stand or draw oxygen.
