Robert Hernandez is a Private Chef in San Francisco, California. He grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles where his passion for food grew through family gatherings and his mother’s cooking. Some of his favorite childhood memories include large gatherings around the kitchen table, eating ceviche, tamales, essentially anything his mother or aunt put on the table.
He is a contestant in Bravo television’s Top Chef. The show which is at its 19th season with a total of 15 contestants, was filmed in Houston, Texas. The show premiered on March 2, 2022, and the winner earns the title of Top Chef as well as a grand prize of US $250, 000. In 2014, he assisted Chef Casey Thompson in opening Aveline and, in 2015, accepted a position at Melissa Perello’s second restaurant, Octavia. With influences from the esteemed Chef-Owner, Melissa Perello, and chefs Jen Jackson and Sara Hauman, he emerged as a natural leader and was awarded the title of Chef de Cuisine in 2017.
Robert has worked in many notable restaurants in San Francisco, including one Michelin-starred restaurant Octavia. At Octavia, the chef worked his way up to Chef de Cuisine and was recognized as San Francisco’s Rising Star Chef in 2019. There, he honed his culinary skills and developed a passion for seasonal ingredients with his inherited flavor profiles. Methodical techniques have shaped his elevated, yet approachable cuisine. Apart from cooking, he enjoys binge-watching his favorite “The Real Housewives” franchise, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Prior to studying culinary arts, he studied international relations at San Francisco State University. After that, he attended California Culinary Academy undertaking an Associates’s degree in Culinary Arts/ Chef Training.
