Avishar Barua is the general manager and head chef of Service Bar at Middle West Spirits from Columbus, Ohio. He was a contestant on Season 18 of Top Chef, which premiered on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 8 p.m. on Bravo Tv. He was competing against the other 14 contestants on the show as he represented his place- Columbus, Ohio. He went to study at The Ohio State University partaking a degree in biology and psychology. After graduating, he went ahead to follow his passion for cooking. He went on to attend culinary school in New York City while being trained and supervised by Wylie Dufresne at Michelin starred WD~50.
After his training, he went back to Ohio and opened the Service Bar for Middle West Spirits which is a local grain to glass distiller. While serving there, he has managed to gain fame and recognition from FOOD & WINE Magazine for his unique meal – the Cheesy Brisket Crunch. His style consists of a mix of Midwestern upbringing and Bangladeshi roots. Previously before joining Service Bar, he has had roles at New York’s Mission Chinese and WD-50, and locally at 1808 American Bistro and Veritas.
