Adam Goldman is an American journalist recognized as a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner. He received the award for covering the New York Police Department’s spying program that monitored daily life in Muslim communities and for his coverage of the Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. He was previously a reporter with the national security team at The Washington Post from 2013 to 2016. He joined The New York Times in August 2016 where he covers the FBI and counterterrorism.
He is the recipient of journalism awards that include: The 2018 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting, The 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting, The Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting, The George Polk Award for Investigative Reporting, The Edgar A. Poe Award from the White House Correspondents Association and The 2014 Shadid Award Winner with Matt Apuzzo and Ted Bridis. He joined the Associated Press (AP) Las Vegas bureau in 2002. At AP he covered gambling and tourism in Las Vegas. He moved to New York as an assignment reporter in 2005 and covered many breaking stories such as a Miracle on the Hudson and an attempted 2009 plot to bomb the subway system. With Matt Apuzzo, they have reported on a secret CIA prison in Romania. He is also the co-author of Enemies Within: Inside the NYPD’s Secret Spying Unit and bin Laden’s Final Plot Against America. He collaborated with Apuzzo in writing this book.
He studied and graduated in 1995 from the University of Maryland. He went ahead to author the book Enemies Within with Matt Apuzzo. After college, he relocated to Israel and returned to the U.S. in 1998. He skipped journalism school and instead began working for newspapers in Virginia and Alabama where he covered police officers and city hall.
