Mervant Vera is an American illusionist, magician, mentalist, hip-hop songwriter, and contestant in season 17 of America’s Got Talent. The new season started on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. The contestants are looking to compete for the ultimate $1 million prize. He started professional entertaining in 2010. He began to learn magic in his teenage years and has been perfecting the same for over 15 years. While performing in different parts of the country, he goes by the stage name Mervant the Deceptionist. He also has his own show in Philadelphia called Deceptions: A Magical Night of Mystery and Deception.
Before he rose to be a top magician, his passion for being an illusionist began while studying at East Stroudsburg University in the Poconos as an undergraduate student. In an interview with The Philadelphia Sun, he said that he was a “late boomer,” and while other kids would begin doing magic when they were kids, he only started at the age of 18. He also talked about the first magic show that he conducted on the college campus. Vera said: “I already had an interest in magic from watching magicians on television, and my university ended up having a few magicians come to do shows, and I thought it was so interesting.”
Other than magic, he does several other things – he writes music and even grew up acting, he has a theater background with a degree in the same. He also believes in himself as an entertainer. He released a new single called Fabric in 2019. He was also featured in Jubilee’s video titled 6 Magicians vs 1 Fake Magician|Odd Man Out.
As stated on his LinkedIn page, he has performed over 700 shows and considers himself “a black belt in magic”. He is a contestant in season seventeen of America’s Got Talent after winning in the auditions stage. For his performance, he combined a card trick with music. For each card he pulled, he came up with a rhyme, rapping in the progress, using an entire deck of cards to compose his rap song. Fans loved his performance and praised his creativity and uniqueness. Many believed that it was golden buzzer worthy.
