Vincent Gil was an Australian film and television writer and actor best known for his portrayal of the character Nightrider in the 1979 film Mad Max, and Stone. His first detective series Homicide led to his rise to fame. Gil had also starred in many Australian television shows such as Matlock Police, Neighbours, A Country Practice, and Prisoner. Gil also acted in theatre roles from his debut in the industry in 1963 until 2007. He is also recognized for his roles in Homicide (1964) and Special Squad (1984).
His most recent appearance was alongside Anthony Lapaglia in the 2001 thriller film The Bank and in the action-comedy film The Long Lunch in 2003.

Gil passed on on August 21, 2022. He was 83 years. According to the Independent, his death was announced in a Facebook post by his co-star Paul Johnstone, who played Cundalini. No cause of death was given. Sharing a recent photo of the pair embracing, Johnstone wrote: “Sadly, it is true… Vince Gil has left us. He’s been very frail for quite some time and mercifully no longer needs to be constrained by his mortal form.”
He went on: “My fondest memory of Vince will be during our wonderful tour of Japan for MMCon 2015. He was already in less-than-ideal health, and in the opening days a couple of us were concerned about his ability to get through the long demanding days of the convention and socializing and travel and convention.“We need not have been concerned. Vince was remarkable – he rose to the occasion every time, fed off the energy of the wonderful Japanese fans, and on the occasions when I’d glance at him and be worried about his ability to keep going, he’d shrug off any concerns and showed that he had a lot more stamina than many of we much younger men. Rest well old friend – we will remember you when we look at the night sky.”
