Ayesha Rascoe is an American journalist. She serves as the host of NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday. She took up the role in March 2022. She has also served as the White House reporter for NPR from April 2018 to March 2022. She covered the Obama White House for Thompson Reuters before moving to NPR in 2017. Her stories are regularly broadcast on NPR show’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and she appears regularly on NPR’s Politics Podcast.
In her previous role, she covered breaking news and policy developments from the White House. Rascoe also travels and reports on many of President Trump’s foreign trips, including his 2019 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi, Vietnam, and his 2018 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland as a part of the White House team.
She kicked off her journalism career by reporting at Thompson Reuters where she covered environmental policy, including the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill and the response to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011. She joined the house in 2008. She also spent a year covering energy legal issues and court cases. She has appeared on Washington Week, Meet The Press, CNN, and MSNBC. She attended and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Howard University. She graduated in 2007 where she was editor in chief of the student newspaper The Hilltop.
