Reid Hamer-Jackson – Reid Hamer-Jackson
Reid Hamer-Jackson is a Canadian businessman from Kamloops. He was elected as Kamloop’s mayor on October 15, 2022. He is the only candidate with no prior municipal government experience. He took the race for mayor with 31.61% of the vote. Dieter Dudy was a close second, at 24. 47%. The incumbent Ken Christian announced he would not be seeking office again. Five people announced plans to replace him, including four former councilors: Ray Dhaliwal, Dieter Dudy, Sadie Hunter, and Arjun Singh.

Just as many of the candidates did, Hamer-Jackson made safety the top priority in his campaign, aiming to reduce harm reduction sites, citing people using drugs as the main reason for the city’s safety concerns. Instead, his campaign promised more rehab and recovery facilities — something he’d have to work with the provincial government to achieve. Voter turnout was 29.01%, with 23, 218 votes cast.
He also pointed to the idea that social agencies are profiting from keeping people within Kamloops and not helping them solve their addiction issues — and that he could solve the issue by sending people out of Kamloops.
He said the point of that exercise is “success” and, when asked how it would result in success, he replied, “You get qualified people.” When asked how he said there would be new hires. However, he does not yet have a plan on how management would be evaluated.
