Simon Bower is a British valuation expert and senior auctioneer. He is an antiques expert on the BBC Show, The Bidding Room. Bower is also known for the Gaerwen Auction Center. He owns his own auctioneering house which has been operating for over 30 years.
Following school, he was employed by Sir George and Lady Meyrick at Bodorgan Hall in Anglesey as a housekeeper and a butler. However, after some time, his mother became sickly and he left his job to be her carer. He first ventured into an antiques dealership in 1987. He first started working as a salesroom assistant to Mr. Rogers Jones at Morgan Evans & Co. After five years (1992), he was promoted to be an antiques auctioneer when Jones left. Simon has continued to work for Morgan Evans as a senior auctioneer and a director of the company since November 2019.
In a speech on his new position, he said, “I feel a great sense of honor and pride to have been appointed a company director at Morgan Evans, a company that has been and continues to be a huge part of my life. I look forward to the exciting times ahead.”
As an auctioneer, Simon visits several households where he gives valuation quotes. With his clients, they often make discoveries of items that the owners assumed to be less valuable. For example, Simon auctioned a wooden cupboard for £45,000 after an elderly woman wanted to throw it away. Ancient books and silver are his favorite items to value. He however admits that he has less knowledge of the huge market for oriental antiques and is still learning about it.

After research, it is reported that he could be suffering from a condition known as Periorbital edema, which is the health-related period for “puffy eyes.” The space around his eyes (the eye orbit) swells up. Factors that may contribute to the said condition may include; allergic reactions, skin troubles, thyroid conditions, periorbital cellulitis, and trichinosis among other things.
