Benji Gregory whose birth name was Benjamin Gregory Hertzberg was an American actor. He was best known as Benji Gregory and for playing the role of Brian Tanner on the 1986-1990 NBC sitcom ALF.
Benji Gregory appeared in all four seasons of 1980s sitcom ALF – which saw a furry alien crash land his spaceship into the garage of the Tanner family, who decided he could stay with them. The name ALF is the – short for Alien Life Form.
Gregory played the character of Brian, the son of the Tanner family, for more than 100 episodes.He also featured in several television shows including The A-Team and T. J. Hooker.
The deceased former child actor appeared in several television shows which include Fantastic Max, Pound Puppies, Murphy Brown , Fantasy Island, Amazing Stories, The Twilight Zone, and Mr. Boogedy. He also made an appearance in the feature film Jumpin’ Jack Flash.
Gregory appeared as himself in the PSAs television series The More You Know, the children’s game show series I’m Telling!, the “Salute to the 50 States episodes” of the game show Fun House, as well as on a kids episode of The Dating Game.
Gregory made several appearances on the television sitcom Punky Brewster, playing an orphan named “Dash,” and supplied the voice of Edgar the Mole in the animated feature Once Upon a Forest. He was scheduled to co-star in a Punky Brewster spin-off called Fenster Hall. The pilot/television-movie of Fenster Hall was never picked up for regular production.
Gregory enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2003 and graduated from school to become an aerographer’s mate. During his naval career Gregory was assigned to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). In 2005, he received an honorable medical discharge from the Navy.

On June 13, 2024, Gregory and his service dog Hans were found dead inside a car at a Chase Bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona. Gregory was 46 at the time of his death. His death was publicly disclosed almost a month later, on July 10, 2024, when the cause of his death was still under investigation.
According to Sky News, his sister, Rebecca Pfaffinger, said in a social media post he was found dead in his car alongside his assistance dog in June 2024. His sister said Gregory had suffered from depression, bipolar disorder, and a sleep disorder and said he probably died of heatstroke after falling asleep in his car.
“It is with a heavy heart my family has suffered a loss way too early,” she wrote on Facebook.
“Ben was a great son, brother, and uncle. He was fun to be around and made us laugh quite often.
“Still, going through his things, I find myself laughing at little videos or notes of his, in between crying.
“My brother Ben was found in his car, along with his beloved service dog Hans, deceased on 13 June.
“We believe he went there the evening of the 12th to deposit some residuals.
“[Found in his car] and never got out of the car to do so. He fell asleep and died from vehicular heatstroke.” She wrote.
