Julia Boorstin is an American award-winning journalist. In May 2006, she joined CNBC as a general assignment reporter. Later in the same year, she became the media house'(CNBC) media and entertainment reporter where she worked from CNBC’s Los Angeles Bureau. Her reports and cover mainly cover media focusing on the intersection of media and technology. She came up with CNBC Disruptor 50 and launched it in 2013. It is an annual list that focuses on and highlights the private companies that are transforming the economy and also challenging companies in established industries. To add to her portfolio, she reported a documentary about the future of television for the network, “Stay Tuned…The Future of TV.”
The reporter joined CNBC from Fortune magazine where she worked as a business writer and reporter since 2000. In that particular time, she also contributed to “Street Life,” a live market wrap-up segment on CNN Headline News. In the years 2003, 2004, and 2006, The Journalist and Financial Reporting newsletter named her to the “TJFR 30 under 30” list of the most promising business journalists under 30 years old. She schooled at Harvard Westlake School between 1990 and 1996. Immediately after completing high school, she went ahead to join Princeton University where she undertook her undergraduate studies and graduated with honors in Bachelor of Arts in History in 2000. She also took part in The Daily Princetonian activities as an editor. She was awarded the News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story – Long Form.
