Aminata Touré is a German politician of Alliance ’90/The Greens, the German green party, mainly active in Schleswig-Holstein state politics. At the age of 25 on June 29, 2017, Touré was elected to the Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein and served as vice-president of the Landtag until 2022 when she completed her tenure. She is the incumbent Minister of Social Affairs, Youth, Family, Senior Citizens, Integration, and Equality of the State of Schleswig-Holstein a role she started on June 29, 2022.
She undertook her studies and proceeded to study political science and French at the University of Kiel, earning her bachelor’s degree in 2016. From 2014 to 2017, she worked for a member of parliament Luise Amtsberg commisioner for refugees as an intern. She became part of the Kiel Green Youth in 2012 and in the following year, she was elected as its speaker. She became an assessor in her state’s green party in 2016 after being elected for the post. She was in charge of the office until 2017 when she got elected to the Landtag.
She was a contestant for the Schleswig-Holstein Green Youth in the 2017 Schleswig-Holstein state election and ranked 11 on the party’s electoral list. She concurrently contested for the single-seat constituency of Neumünster. She did not enter the Landtag after the election since her party was only granted ten seats and she was the 11th. However, Monika Heinold vacated her seat after being named Minister of Finance of Schleswig-Holstein leaving her seat occupied by Touré. In her jurisdiction of the state parliamentary faction, she is the speaker for Migration, Women & Equality, Children & Youth, LGBT Issues, and Anti-Racism.
In June 2019, Rasmus Andresen’s left for the European Parliament leaving his office as vice-president of the Landtag vacant. Touré was elected by the coalition to be his successor on August 28, 2019. She became the first Afro-German as well as the yungest to be the Vic President of a Landtag.
After the 2021 federal elections, she was part of her party’s delegation in the working group on equality, co-chaired by Petra Köpping, Ricarda Lang, and Herbert Mertin. The delegation held negotiations to form a coalition government between the SPD, the Green Party, and Free Democratic Party (FDP). Her part nominated her as a delegate to the Federal Convention for the purpose of electing the president of Germany in 2022.
Following the e 2022 Schleswig-Holstein state election, her party Alliance ’90/The Greens entered into a coalition with the CDU under Minister-President Daniel Günther (CDU). She was appointed on June 29, 2022, as Minister of Social Affairs, Youth, Family, Senior Citizens, Integration, and Equality in the Second Günther cabinet, replacing Heiner Garg (FDP).
