Astrid Martinez is an American reporter for CBS News based in New York. She was born in Medellin, Colombia where the civil and political unrest that plagued her country sparked her passion for storytelling and a career in journalism. She was the former Miss Colombia USA 2000. She has worked at HBO in New York, fill-in-host at Azteca America in Naples, Florida, and co-host on the Fox 4 Morning Blend, tackling border issues as the anchor for the KGBT 5 p.m. newscast and Spanish language 8 pm newscast in Texas, and also reported for WBTV in Charlotte.
Before she joined CBS News, she was a news correspondent at BNC. She worked as a reporter in NBC Universal Media, LLC from 2025 to 2016. She was also a reporter/ anchor at WBTV from 2012 to 2015. She has also served as an anchor and reporter on KGBT from 2010 to 2012. She co-hosted WFTX in Fort Myers from 2007 to 2008. She also was a co-host and producer at Azteca America from 2006 to 2007. She is a three-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and host of Astrid in ATL and was recognized as one of the 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia by the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The luncheon took place inside SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia. As the host of Astrid in ATL, she focuses on culture and the booming movie and music industry in the city. Her passion for storytelling began in her native country of Colombia.
She is actively engaged in community efforts and gives back such as with the Bravos de Atlanta wherein former player Eddie Perez and she talked to some youth in early August; with the EME Women’s Advisory Board which seeks to encourage Latina women to educate, mentor, elevate, and empower other Latina women; mentoring youth and; so much more. She also sponsored a child, in Columbia, through an online program so that she could attend school. She graduated with top honors from Montclair State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a concentration in Latin American Studies.
