Bryan Mims is an American multimedia journalist and reporter from South Carolina who works for WRAL-TV from 2006 to date. He works as a general assignment reporter. From 2000 to 2006 he still worked as a general assignment reporter at the same station. Besides shooting, writing, and editing television stories, he is also a freelance writer for Our State magazine and Business North Carolina. Previously, he had been at KPHO-TV in Phoenix, Arizona from 1999 to 2000 as a general assignment reporter. He had been at WSPA-TV, Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina from 1994 to 1999 serving as a reporter/anchor and photographer. He had also worked at WLTX-TV, Columbia, South Carolina before.
He started in journalism as a writer for a weekly newspaper in the suburbs of Greenville. In the media industry, he looked up to his mentor the late CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt who was also from South Carolina. His work has helped him garner awards and recognition such as the Regional Emmy Award, Associated Press News Writing in 2012, the 2010 Haiti earthquake coverage, and Multimedia Journalist of the Year, 2019, Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas.
His news philosophy is simple: “Make sure that every story I do is fair, well-written, compelling, and memorable.” He studied Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from 1993 to 1997. In 1998, he graduated from the University of South Carolina.
With his wife, they quit their television jobs in 2004 to travel the smallest roads they could find throughout the western U.S. They bought a raggedy 1982 Fleetwood trailer, only 15 feet long, and hauled it across 10 western states. During that time, they also traveled with a church in Phoenix, Arizona, to shoot documentaries in Paraguay, Brazil, Honduras, and China. In 2005, they spent three months in Honduras to produce documentaries on church missions there. They have also been on mission trips to Uganda and Nigeria.
