Chris Tran is a marketing and business development advisor from Victoria, Australia. He was a new contestant in season 14 of MasterChef Australia. The format is known as Fans & Favourites and it features 12 new contestants and 12 former contestants. The season premiered on April 18, 2022. He has been able to learn a lot thanks to his dad who was a trained chef who specialized in European dishes, and his mum who prepared hearty and traditional Vietnamese food for the home. His signature dish is Banh Cuon, Vietnamese steamed rice noodles. Chris also enjoys cooking Chinese cuisine including biang biang noodles and dumplings. He was eliminated on the fifth episode of the show on April 24, 2022, as the first contestant to leave the show.
Cooking has allowed him to reconnect with his Vietnamese heritage, and he now dreams of traveling around Vietnam, learning more about the history and culture of his homeland through food. He enjoys preparing Vietnamese street food with nuoc cham, admitting it is a constant reminder of family and is fun to eat and enjoy alongside a beer.
According to his bio on 10play, he was inspired by dishes created by Dan Hong, Jerry Mai, and Khanh Nguyen, Chris says his favorite food is fried chicken, claiming there’s nothing more satisfying than the perfect balance of crunchy skin and succulent meat. Supported at home by his parents, sister Jo, brothers Darren and Jonathan and partner of seven years Nyssa, Chris says when he’s not cooking, he enjoys photography and keeping fit through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, ice hockey, and golf.
After completing his studies featuring a degree in law, he practiced for six months before realizing the career path was not for him. After making a bold move to sidestep into media and advertising, he has since made his way back to the legal industry in a business development role.
