Florence Bore is a Kenyan citizen appointed as the cabinet secretary for Labour and Social Protection by President William Ruto. The announcement of her appointment was made on September 27, 2022, by the president when he named his cabinet secretaries who will be serving in his tenure as president. Her name will be sent to the national assembly where she will be vetted and approved. She will take after Simon Chelugui who is her predecessor. Chelugui took up the role in January 2020 after his appointment by the former president, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Florence was born in Kerich County and began her primary school education at Kerich Primary School. She then proceeded to Kipsigis Girls for her Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) and completed her high school studies at Kipsigis Girls High School for the Kenya Advance Certificate of Education (KACE) which she completed in 1989. Following that, she joined Kagumo Teachers College for her Diploma in Education. She then undertook a degree in Bachelor of Education Arts at Moi University graduating in 2013.
Her first job after graduating, was as a teacher, employed by the Teachers Service Commission. She then progressed and became the director at Geothermal Development Company before vying for an elective post. She became a member of the national assembly (women representative) for Kericho County in 2017 under the Jubilee Party. She served in the capacity of women representative in Kericho County until the August 2022 general elections. Her appointment to the cabinet secretary’s office came in September 2022. She has also been a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee and Members Service and Facilities Committee since 2017.
