Frank Warrick was a prominent Australian journalist who worked as a news presenter. He had a 40-year-career in both radio and television and as well worked as a radio DJ in the 1960s. He started his career in radio in Toowoomba in the early 1980s before making the transition to Brisbane television. He was a staple throughout multiple stints at 9News Queensland, including being lead presenter from 1983-85 and the early 2000s. He began working at Seven News in June 1976 as a part-time weekend newsreader. In February 1977, he was promoted to full-time weekend news presenter and reporter. A move to weekdays would follow, and he was news co-presenter with Kay McGrath for 13 years, until 2001.

He died on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, aged 76. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his family. His long-term on-air partner, Kay McGrath, described him as a “consummate professional who’ll be much missed. Frank and I always had each other’s backs on air during a highly successful 13-year partnership,” she said on Twitter. McGrath said they had a successful on-air relationship during the 1980s and ’90s. “Live TV can be a challenging environment at times, but we always had each other’s backs,” she said. “He taught me a lot and I’m very saddened to hear he’s left ‘this world around us.”

Queensland politicians and journalists paid tribute to the television legend, including Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk. Ms. Palaszczuk said the former 9News presenter and weatherman was a “welcome guest in thousands of Queensland homes” through his 40-year-career in radio and television.

Former colleague and Seven News sports journalist Pat Welsh described him as the ultimate professional.
