Gina Swanson is a veteran anchor and reporter who is an award-winning journalist and an Emmy-nominated reporter for WDSU News. She is inquisitive and loves getting a lot of thus describing herself as being naturally curious. This, therefore, makes her fit for the career path that she chose.
She is a graduate of Edna Karr Magnet High School. She attended Louisiana State University whereby Mass Communication was her major, as she also minored in History and hence graduated with honors. After Louisiana State University she left for Evanston, Illinois where she went to Northwestern University and earned there a Master’s Degree in political and public affairs reporting.
Besides news delivery, she loves watching the news too on television, is a keen listener to talk radio, or reading the newspaper. From popular culture to politics, she prides herself on being well-informed and up-to-date on a range of issues. This led to her landing different news jobs in Chicago and Washington, D.C., while in college. To top all of it, she loves covering news in her hometown of New Orleans.
That job gave her the opportunity to meet United States Presidents, cover the Saints’ Super Bowl season and be an eyewitness to history-making moments. Her career started in Monroe, Louisiana, where she anchored the weekend evening news. After staying for three years in north Louisiana, she shifted to Austin, Texas, where she spent two years anchoring the news and covering central Texas. She got a job offer for a reporter position at WDSU in January 2008 and she took it and has been working there ever since.
