Jackson Kibor born Jackson Kiprotich Kibor was a Kalenjin wealthy businessman and politician from Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. He was popularly known as Mzee Kibor and was nicknamed the chairman of the men’s conference and was known for some of his controversies. He dropped out of school in 1957 while in class 5 due to lack of school fees and became a herdsboy, farmhand, and driver. He worked as a farmhand and driver for Mzee Chirchir Masit and saved Sh35,000 in 1963 to buy 1,200 acres at Kipkabus in Uasin Gishu and later another Sh200,000 to buy 2,000 acres at Soy farm in 1969. Kibor bought another 1,200 acres in Trans Nzoia and 357 acres at Mafuta farm near Moiben, among other assets in the region. From his savings and hard work, Kibor bought all his farms and livestock which earned him more money. He then entered the real estate business.
In 1981, Kibor was elected chairman of the Wareng county council covering current Uasin Gishu county. He became a public figure when he became the KANU party chairperson for Uasin Gishu County. During his three-year tenure, he became one of the richest men in the country. He plucked up the courage to ask President Moi in public to name and prepare his successor – at the time no one expected Moi to exit voluntarily. He was manhandled, forced to kneel and apologize to Moi. KANU Party membership became outraged and Kibor was forced from power. He was thrown out of Kanu back in the 90s and joined opposition politics. He was a staunch supporter of ODM leader Raila Odinga, whom he said he has worked hard and should be given a chance to lead, even as a ceremonial president.

Kibor died on Wednesday, March 16, 202 at the age of 89. According to information provided by his family, the late Mzee Kibor died after a long illness at ST. Luke’s Hospital in Eldoret. Since October 2020, he had been using medical Oxygen since October 2020 after he contracted Covid 19. He always had an oxygen cylinder in his car as well as at home. Before his death, he had been admitted to St. Luke’s Orthopaedic Hospital, Eldoret. Upon various tests, the doctors confirmed that his two kidneys had failed. He got admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before the confirmation of his demise.
His funeral took place on Friday, April 1, 2022, at his home in Samitui Farm, Kabenes, Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County.
