James Jones is an American event planner and curator from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is a castaway from Survivor 43. He forms part of the Coco Tribe in the competition. The season premiered on September 21, 2022, on CBS and Global. He was announced as one of 18 contestants alongside Gabler, Noelle Lambert, Geo Bustamante, and Cassidy Clark among several others. Filming took place in Fiji for an eleventh consecutive season.
James Jones Survivor 43
He is a castaway in Survivor 43 which premiered in September 2022. He is part of the Coco team in the competition. He was announced amongst the 18 contestants in the show competing to be the Sole Survivor. In an interview before the show began he described his greatest accomplishment that which he is proud of as winning the United States Chess Open (the largest chess tournament in the USA) for his rating bracket when he was 12. He was playing against grown people, and he won $1,200. That was like $100,000 to him at the time! It gave him the confidence that he could do almost anything.
When he was asked about something one would never know from looking at him he said that he was brought up in the church. He served as an usher and sang in the choir from age 6 to 17. His father was a deacon and his mom was a deaconess. He went on to say he has a deep faith but it is his own faith. He doesn’t talk about it a lot but he is a big believer.
He regards his hero as his mother. This is because, according to him, she overcame a lot to raise him and give him the foundation to be the person that he is today. She made sure he was brought up in a safe house, made sure he went to church to develop a moral compass and took him to black history workshops as a child so he had a sense of self-worth. She made sure Jones got into the best public school in the city, then made sure he could travel the country as a middle schooler playing chess. His mother passed away five years ago (2017), and as he grows older, he grows to admire her more each day.
He would like to play his game like Sandra who is a past Survivor. According to Jones, Sandra’s “anyone but me” will always be his strategy as long as he sees a path to the end and he is with people, or have people, which he trusts. If he doesn’t get that then he will be an agent of chaos Russell with charm. I am playing to win and not for 7th place.
He believes that he will be the Sole Survivor because he thrives and finds a certain level of comfort in chaos. His job includes managing events at a club on a Friday night anything can happen, but whatever issues pop up you have to handle them. That takes interpersonal skills if it is dealing with people, and it takes general problem-solving skills when dealing with a venue, and you still have to make sure everyone at your party has a great time.
