Janaye Henry is a New Zealand stand-up comedian, actor, and content creator of Māori and NZ European descent.She is a contestant in the 2024 series of Celebrity Treasure Island. The show started on September 9, 2024. It goes on air every Monday to Wednesday at 7:30 pm on TVNZ2 and TVNZ+.
She is a Billy T Award-nominated comedian, write,r and actor. Being part of the show she hopes to donate the funds she will receive to the Aunties Charity. The Aunties support people who have gotten out of abusive situations emotionally and financially.
The 2024 CTI contestant studied at Victoria University of Wellington, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Criminology. Additionally, she completed a Diploma in Te Tohu Paetahi at Waikato University in Tauranga, which focused on her studies in te reo Māori.
She first gained recognition in the Wellington comedy scene, winning “Best Newcomer” in 2017. After taking a break to tour with theatre productions and study te reo Māori, she returned to the comedy scene in 2020, making regular comedic Instagram videos. In 2023, she was nominated for the prestigious Billy T Award at the NZ International Comedy Festival.
Janaye is known for her intelligent and thoughtful approach to comedy, often weaving social and cultural issues into her work, including Māori representation and beauty standards for women of color. She also emphasizes the importance of kindness in comedy, sometimes preferring to focus on meaningful content over just generating laughter.

Who or what do you think you’ll miss the most?
She answered, “I’ll miss my family the most, for sure. But tangible things. A pillow, I reckon, will be pretty major, and also hot chips. I love hot chips.”

“I’m obsessed with Rachel House. I’ve never met her, but she’s so great and so funny. I think we’d have great night-time chats.” She said.
