Johnny Solinger (born John Preston Solinger) was an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of Skid Row from 1999 to 2015. At the time of his split, he was the band’s longest-serving vocalist, surpassing Sebastian Bach, who was in the band for nine years. He took after Sebastian in 1999. During his time in the band, he performed on the albums Thick skin (2003) and the 2006 Revolutions Per Minute, along with Chapters 1 and 2 of the three-part United World Rebellion EP series, with Chapter 3 due to be completed with Solinger’s replacement ZP Theart on vocals.
As a young boy, he moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth area where he was exposed to hard rock and country music, and his interest in them grew. In 1990, he formed the rock band SOLINGER in Dallas, recording four independent records: Solinger, Solinger II, Chain Link Fence, and Solinger Live. He enjoyed live performance and radio success throughout the Southwest.
In 1999, Skid Row members Dave “The Snake” Sabo, Rachel Bolan, and Scotti Hill hired Solinger to replace previous lead vocalist Sebastian Bach. In 2000, Skid Row was the opening band on Kiss’s “Farewell Tour.”
In 2008, he took to follow a country music solo career. His first country album was only released regionally and is filled with both country and rock. The album includes the song “You Lie”, which he recorded with his bandmates in Skid Row.

Solinger died on June 26, 2021,a month after he revealed he was suffering from liver failure. He was 55 years old. His wife, actress Paula Marcenaro Solinger, confirmed the musician’s death. She siad, “He passed yesterday while I was holding his hand.”
A post on the Official Skid Row Instagram page also confirmed his demise. “We are saddened to hear the news of our brother Johnny Solinger,” the band said in the post-Saturday. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fans. Godspeed Singo. Say hello to Scrappy for us.”
Solinger announced on his Facebook page in May 2021 that he was hospitalized after being diagnosed with liver failure. “It is with a heavy heart I must let everyone know what’s going on with me and my health,” he said in the May post. “I have been hospitalized for over the last month. I have been diagnosed with liver failure. And the prognosis is not so good.”
Upon his death, bassist Tony Franklin (Whitesnake, Jimmy Page) remembered Solinger as “a sweet guy, a bundle of laughs, and some vocal pipes. Rest peacefully, Johnny!”

A verified GoFundMe campaign was created shortly after by his friend Brian Lawrence to help pay for his medical bills and palliative care.
Lawrence has been posting updates on Solinger’s health regularly since the fund began in May. The campaign raised $16,525 of its $100,000 goal.
After his death, Brian wrote on the page, “Hi, my name is Brian. I am hoping to raise funds for Johnny Solinger, former singer for the band Skid Row. Johnny has just lost his battle with liver failure. We are hoping to raise funds for his funeral costs. I want to personally thank all of you who donated during his treatment. Y’all are a blessing and he was so moved by the outpouring of love. Thank you and God bless.
