Jovita Moore was an American news anchor who worked for WSB-TV in Atlanta, Georgia from 1998 and moved to the main anchor desk in 2012. She worked in the station until her death. She previously worked at TV stations in Memphis and Arkansas and had interned with The New York Times.

In 1990, she started her newscasting career in Fort Smith, Arkansas for their CBS affiliate KFSM-TV. She would later move on to Memphis, Tennessee for their NBC affiliate WMC-TV. But it wasn’t until she moved to Atlanta, Georgia for their ABC affiliate WSB-TV in 1998 that Moore started to rise. In 2001, Moore won an Emmy for her news piece on cystic fibroids, which also included her own battle with the disease and surgery. She would win many more Emmys.

In July 2012, she was chosen to replace Monica Kaufman Pearson, who was retiring as anchor of the 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 evening newscasts, alongside Justin Farmer. In 2017, Moore was awarded the Silver Circle by the Southeastern Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Outside of newscasting, she helped out several civic associations and non-profit organizations throughout metro Atlanta and sat on numerous boards of directors, including the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists.

She is well-known for the abundant time she gave to volunteering with civic associations and nonprofit organizations. She especially loved mentoring students. Moore earned her master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Bennington College and interned at the New York Times.

On October 28, 2021, Moore passed away from brain cancer, at the age of 54. Her co-anchor Justin Farmer broke the news of her death the next morning on October 29, 2021. Justin Farmer posted to the station’s website it was announced; “After a nearly 7-month battle with an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer, our colleague and friend Jovita Moore has passed away. She passed last night, as she wanted, with her family by her side. She passed peacefully.”

In April 2021, doctors diagnosed her with two tumors in her brain. She underwent successful surgery to remove the tumors, but she was later diagnosed with glioblastoma, a very aggressive form of brain cancer. During her hiatus, Sophia Choi, Linda Stouffer, and Lori Wilson, among others took her place on the newscast until Moore would fully recover.
