Kiki Louya Biography – Kiki Louya Wiki
Kiki Louya born Kiki Bokungu Louya is a chef, writer, food activist and restaurant consultant. She was a contestant in season 18 of Top Chef on Bravo-TV. Her style of cooking originates from her cultural background whereby she uses food as a channel of people to communicate topics around being black in America. She went to study and graduated from Le Cordon Bleu, Chicago as well as The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She is also an instructor on food expertise, farming, and business skills to students at Georgetown and Yale.
Besides cooking, she loves taking care of her wild plants and vegetable garden. In her line of work, she has been crowned as one of “16 Black Chefs Changing Food in America” by the New York Times. This was as a result of her search for social justice, fighting for fair wages at her restaurants, and the use of local and available ingredients. She is also a recipient of admiration from people for her work as Chef and Owner of Detroit’s Folk & The Farmer’s Hand. The two restaurants won awards before she eventually made a decision to step down from leadership in March 2020. She worked under Paul Kahan who mentored her being her personal favorite and has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, the Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, and Bon Appetit.

She comes from a mixed family. She is the daughter of a Congolese immigrant (her father) while her mother is white. Her paternal grandparents were polygamous with her grandfather marrying two wives. She has two siblings – her sisters the youngest named Mimi.
