Lilia Aragon (born Lilia Isabel Aragon del Rivero) was a Mexican film, television, comic book writer and stage actress, and politician. She was the Secretary of the National Association of Actors. She was the star of programs such as Cuna de Lobos and María Isabel. She played major roles in more than 20 films. A few of them had international repercussions like “Mictlan or the house of those who are no longer” in 1969 and were nominated at the Cannes Festival in 1970. Her most remembered films include Aunt Isabel’s Garden in 1972 and Angel of Fire in 1992.

She graduated as a lawyer at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and then did her histrionic training at Bellas Artes. Her career as an actress started in theater, despite her success in other formats such as film and television. During her career, she made more than 20 films, some with international fame, such as Mictlan o a casa de los que ya no son (1969), which led her to be nominated at the Cannes Film Festival in 1970.

In television, she is remembered for her participation in iconic soap operas such as Cuna de lobos (1986), Rosalia (1978) and Esperanza del corazon (2011). She received two nominations for the TV y Novelas Awards for “Best Leading Actress” in 1987 and 2006 for her performance in Cuna de Lobos and La Esposa Libre, respectively. Her artistic career also received awards from the National Chamber of Women.

Her participation in Mexican politics was marked by her role as plurinominal deputy for the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), from 2004 to 2006, and alternate deputy for Elba Esther Gordillo, also for the PRI from 2003 to 2006. She also served as Deputy of the LIX Legislature of the Mexican Congress representing the Federal District as replacement of Elba Esther Gordillo.

The statement read, “The National Association of Actors deeply regrets the death of our colleague Lilia Aragon del Rivero, who was the General Secretary of our union during the 2006-2010 period. Our sincere condolences to her family and friends. Rest in Peace.”

The National Actors Association (ANDA) was joined by industry colleagues, followers, and cultural institutions to offer condolences for the passing of the actress.
