Maureen Maher is an American journalist from Michigan. She is a television news reporter as well as a correspondent. She is one of the hosts of the American documentary program 48 Hours broadcast on CBS.
A Michigan native, the television news reporter studied and graduated from Loyola University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications in 1991. Following school, her first job was as a morning-drive news anchor in 1991 with WLUW (FM) a radio station located in Chicago. The following year, she relocated to Detroit working for WJBK-TV and CBS-owned radio station WWJ (AM) as a reporter. She left in 1995.
She went on to Michigan to work as a news anchor for WJRT-TV from 1995 to 1997. In her tenure there, she covered breaking news including the Oklahoma City bombing and the Decker farm raid. She joined CBS Newspath in 1997 as a correspondent and covered renowned stories such as the impeachment of Bill Clinton, the Kosovo crisis, and the release of US servicemen in Albania. She left the role in 2002.
From 1999 to 2002, she worked as a correspondent for CBS News in Dallas. She served as a reporter for CBS Evening News. Her reports included the War on Terror, the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the 2002 Kenyan hotel bombing, the Enron scandal, and US natural disasters. She also reported on the 2003 Chicago porch collapse resulting in 13 deaths and proceedings of the Scott Peterson murder trial. Ultimately in 2003, she was assigned to host 48 Hours Mystery, a CBS true crime documentary and news program broadcast.
