Mindy Woods is a chef and restauranteur from New South Wales. She was previously a contestant in series 4 of MasterChef Australia where she finished fourth. She is making a comeback in the same reality cooking show with the aim of being the winner. The show returned for its 14th season in 2022. The format was known as Fans & Favourites and featured 12 new contestants and 12 former contestants. The season premiered on Monday, April 18, 2022. She is a Widjabul Wia-bul woman who felt the call to return to Australia during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. She spoke as a Traditional Owner during Lismore City Council’s decision to hand over land on the North Lismore plateau to its traditional owners.
“I’m a descendent of King Jack Kapeen, a leader of the Widjabul Wia-bul people, whose country extends through The Channon, Minyon Falls, Casino, Lismore and wraps around into South Ballina,” Mindy says.”My Nan on my mum’s side had 11 children and raised some nieces and nephews as well, so I have an incredible family network around this area.”
Some of Mindy’s favorite memories are spending holidays with her Nan at the beach, collecting pippis and oysters, and picking karkalla, which is also known as the purple-flowering ‘pigface’ plant.
