Montell Douglas otherwise known as Fire is a Gladiator and an Olympian. In 2023, she was unveiled as Fire in the BBC One series of Gladiators. In August 2024, Douglas was announced as a contestant on the twenty-second series of Strictly Come Dancing. The show will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
She is a multi-talented sports star who has competed as an Olympic Bobsledder and Team GB Sprinter. In 2010, Montell Douglas won Commonwealth Gold in the 4x100m relay race. She also held the British woman’s record for fastest 100m sprint.
Her appearance at the Beijing Winter Olympics in the Bobsledding team etched her name into sporting history as she became the first female UK athlete to compete at both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
She attended Ravensbourne School and at a very young age, Douglas developed an interest in athletics and was encouraged by her PE Teacher to participate in it. She proceeded to study sports science at Brunel University.
Douglas made her first senior major championship appearance at the 2007 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
In the 2008 season, she finished second behind Jeanette Kwakye in the women’s 100 m at the British Championships.
Douglas switched to bobsleigh in 2016 and finished in the top ten on her World Cup debut in January 2017, before travelling to PyeongChang 2018 as a reserve.
In the following Olympic cycle, she recorded her best World Cup finish of fourth in Altenberg in early 2019, which she matched in Innsbruck in December 2020, before getting selected for Beijing.

The Olympian is a contestant in the twenty second series of Strictly Come Dancing. She said upon the announcement,
“Strictly ARE YOU READY, Fire is here to light up the Ballroom. Wow! I am so honoured to have been asked to do the show. It is such an amazing thing to be a part of and I can’t wait to get started. Hopefully, a few of my Gladiator moves will come in handy with the Tango or Paso Doble!”
