Paul Herman was an American actor from Brooklyn, New York. He is known for playing Randy in David O. Russell’s dramedy (drama and comedy) Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and Whispers DiTullio in Martin Scorsese’s crime epic The Irishman (2019). He started his acting career in 1982 in Dear Mr. Wonderful, with Joe Pesci and Karen Ludwig. Throughout the ’80s he then appeared in films such as Easy Money, The Cotton Club, The Purple Rose of Cairo, and Radio Days. On television, the actor had roles in Spencer: For Hire, Miami Vice, and The Equalizer, before taking on the role of club owner Peter “Beansie” Gaeta in The Sopranos. Herman went on to play Marvin — the exceptionally tolerant accountant to megastar Vince Chase (Adrian Grenier) — in HBO’s Entourage from 2004 to 2010.

His other appearances in movies include Once Upon a Time in America, At Close Range, We Own the Night, Heat, Crazy Heart, Quick Change, Sleepers, Cop Land, The Fan, Analyze That, The Day Trippers, and American Hustle. He had a recurring role on The Sopranos as Peter “Beansie” Gaeta, as well as in another HBO series, Entourage, as Vincent Chase’s accountant, Marvin.

A first-class storyteller and raconteur and one hell of an actor. ‘Goodfellas,’ ‘Once Upon a Time in America,’ ‘The Irishman, and of course ‘The Sopranos’ are some highlights. Paulie lived around the corner from me for the last few years and I am glad we got to spend some time together before he left us. I’ll miss him. Lots of love to his family, friends, and our community of actors and filmmakers.”

In a statement to The Cardinal Facts, Herman’s “Goodfellas” co-star Robert De Niro said: “I am very sad about the passing of Paul Herman. He was a wonderful actor as well as a dear friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him, and by the profession, he so proudly served through the quality of his work.”
