Philip Mpango (Dr.Philip Mpango) is the incumbent Vice President-elect of the United Republic of Tanzania. He was previously a Minister of Finance in Tanzania from March 2015. In the past, he has been in office for different posts including being a politician. He has served as the acting commissioner-general of the Tanzania Revenue Authority, he was the head of the team of the President’s Economic Advisory Unit in Tanzania, senior economist for the World Bank, executive secretary in the President’s Office (Planning Commission), the personal assistant to the president (economic affairs), and the deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance & Economic Affairs.
He was approved unanimously to be the new vice president of Tanzania. After his nomination by the president of Tanzania Samia Suluhu, his name was forwarded to parliament for approval on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. He takes the position that was declared vacant after the death of Tanzania’s president John Pombe Magufuli and his deputy Samia Suluhu had to step up to fill the vacant seat according to Tanzania’s constitution.
Mpango has also worked in diverse fields such as being the Visiting Lecturer in Public Economics in Tanzania, participated in the Collaborative Masters program for Anglo-phone Africa, AERC, Nairobi-Kenya, and was also a Lecturer, at the Economics Department University of Dar es Salaam.
