Robin Dole is an American and the dean of the College of Health and Human Services department at Widener University. She is also a scholar, a professor, and a clinician. She is best known as the only child of the late Bob Dole who died on December 5, 2021, after battling cancer. Her father was an American politician and attorney who represented Kansas in the United States Senate from 1969 to 1996. He was the Republican Leader of the Senate during the final 11 years of his tenure, including three nonconsecutive years as Senate Majority Leader. Before his 27 years in the Senate, he served in the United States House of Representatives from 1961 to 1969. He was also the Republican presidential nominee in the 1996 election and the vice presidential nominee in the 1976 election.
According to her profile on the Widener University website, Robin received her entry-level BS in physical therapy from Ithaca College and finished a pediatric fellowship on her way to pediatric specialization in physical therapy from the University of Indianapolis. Her academic doctoral work is in child and youth studies from Nova Southeastern University, with a focus on exceptional education and special services. She also finished a post-professional doctorate in physical therapy through the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Her academic pursuits contributed to her work as a pediatric physical therapist working in early intervention and school-based settings and led to her research and teaching.
She assisted her father, Bob with his political campaigns, though she did not have an official label for her duties, she helped him with all the capacity that she had. She attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and pursued a degree in Psychology.

Bob Dole Death and Funeral
Her father Bob Dole passed on on December 5, 2021, at the age of 98 after battling lung cancer. In February 2021, Dole announced he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and would undergo treatment. Bob received immunotherapy to treat the disease, forgoing chemotherapy due to its negative effect on his body. Dole died from the disease in his sleep on the morning of December 5, 2021, at the age of 98. After the announcement of his death, President Biden and former Presidents Carter, Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump all paid tributes to Dole.
In a statement on Sunday, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation – founded by Dole’s wife, a former North Carolina senator and cabinet official – said: “It is with heavy hearts we announced that Senator Robert Joseph Dole died earlier this morning in his sleep. At his death, at age 98 he had served the United States of America faithfully for 79 years.”
His funeral service took place on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Washington National Cathedral. In attendance were US President Biden and former President Bill Clinton. President Biden acknowledged Dole as a man of principle and enormous integrity. Robin read from a farewell letter he sent to a former member of staff prior to his death. Robin said her family didn’t know about the letter, with the late senator drafting it with a staff member whom he swore to secrecy.”As I make the final walk on life’s journey, I do so without fear because I know that I will again not be walking alone. I know that God will be walking with me,” the letter says.In the letter, he calls readers “to never forget the sacrifice made not just by my generation but by all those who wear the uniform of our country.”
Dole’s procession paused at the World War II memorial on the National Mall, where a tribute ceremony was held. His body was then be flown back to Kansas.
