Ron Cribb is a former New Zealand rugby union player. A loose forward, the 1.94 m, 110 kg Cribb is a former All Black, and mainly played number eight. He is a castaway on the 2022 series of the New Zealand reality television show Celebrity Treasure Island. He entered the show as the third and final intruder. His last professional game was in Japan for Kobelco Steelers. He joined from the North Harbour province. While still part of North Harbour, he played alongside fellow former All-Black Troy Flavell, who was also his teammate in the Massey High School 1st XV and for the Massey Premier side. The two got their first All Blacks call-ups on the same day. He played 16 games for the All Blacks, 34 Super 12 games for the Auckland Blues, and 41 games for North Harbour. He also played 6 games for New Zealand Māori.
After suffering a broken neck in Japan in 2010, due to a collapsed maul, his career came to an end. He appeared in the Match Fit squad with fellow alumni against New Zealand Barbarians but was ruled out of the match as the prolapsed cervical disc neck injury had not fully recovered.
He made his way back to the Match Fit for season 2 in 2021/22 (aired in June 2022), but revealed that his starting weight and total cholesterol levels were higher than at the beginning of season 2, as he was recovering from torn Achilles when playing touch rugby, and also just recovered from non-COVID-19 bronchitis. He remained as a touch-rugby-only reserve player and emergency assistant coach when Graham Henry was unwell due to illness in season 2.

Ron Cribb Celebrity Treasure Island 2022
He entered Celebrity Treasure Island as the third and final intruder and will be fighting hard to benefit multiple charities. According to nzherald.co.nz, he will be championing Stand for Children, a charity with which he has close ties. With his brother Gary, they benefited from the charity’s services as they were growing up. At the show’s launch, he attended Stand for Children’s Pene Frost, who was excited about Cribb not only raising money for the charity but thrilled about the profile he will bring to what they do and who they help.
“Stand for Children takes in some of New Zealand’s most vulnerable children,” says Cribb. Such vulnerability, he says, comes from trauma, abuse or neglect with the charity providing a safe environment for kids – schooling them, showing them what it’s like to be loved and cared for, and teaching them that their life does have a purpose. “I was one of them as a kid and so was my brother, so this was a big opportunity to be representing them.”
He also wants to win money from challenges and hopefully take out the title – and the $100,000 prize money – for the late, great fellow former All Black Inga Tuigamala’s charity. Cribb was set to co-star with Tuigamala on the show before his mate’s death earlier in 2022. The duo worked and played together on Three’s Match Fit so, in a tribute gesture, 50 percent of money won on CTI will go to Tuigamala’s charity ODICE, (Obesity & Diabetes Intervention Champion Evangelist) and Alliance Health Plus.
He told Spy, “Over the past year I became really close with Inga and I signed up for this show with my mate. Losing him was obviously heartbreaking. Representing his charity is an opportunity to honor my mate and his family by tackling the challenges on his behalf, and just a small way to keep his spirit in the game and on the journey with me.”
