Shad Gaspard was an American actor and professional wrestler who was formerly a star in WWE wrestling whereby he formed a team with his partner JTG as a member of Cryme Tyme under his real name. After leaving WWE in 2010, he ventured into acting and got several roles in films and television series such as The Game and Get Hard among others. He was also the co-founder of the graphic novel Assasin and Son. He died on May 17, 2020, after being carried away by waves while he was swimming with his son at the beach. His body was however found on May 20, 2020, by Venice Beach in California.
After finishing high school, he proceeded to play basketball at Georgia Perimeter College, and after his departure, he went ahead to be a bodyguard for various rappers and actors, among them including pop star Britney Spears, and Puff Daddy, and Mike Tyson.

On May 17, 2020, Gaspard and his son were among a group of swimmers who were caught in a strong rip current at Marina del Rey beach in Venice Beach, California. His son was pulled from the water while he vanished underwater. After searching him for quite some time through an area of 70 square nautical miles, the U.S Coast Guard suspended efforts to locate him. On May 20, 2020, his body was found washed ashore in Venice Beach, California, and was identified by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. This was three days after he had gone missing. The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed the body was his and said his family has been notified of his death.
The WWE said in a statement, “WWE is saddened to learn that former WWE Superstar Shad Gaspard has passed away at the age of 39. Gaspard had gone missing while swimming with his son at Venice Beach in California on May 17. In his final act, Gaspard instructed lifeguards to save his son’s life. WWE extends its condolences to Gaspard’s family, friends and fans.”
