Tamaryn Green is a South African model, beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa 2018, and a doctor. She became the South African representative in the Miss Universe 2018 competition and became the first runner-up. Beforehand, it was made public that she would join the 28 team regional qualifiers for Miss South Africa 2018 in April 2018. After some time, she managed to be among the top twelve contestants on television. As the competition came to an end, she moved to the top five, and then the top two were able to earn the crown and title Miss South Africa 2018 as Miss World South Africa was taken by Thulisa Keyi. Her forerunner, Adè van Heerden handed over the crown to her.
Being Miss South Africa 2018 she had to represent her country at Miss Universe 2018 which took place in Bangkok, Thailand. She became the first runner-up as Catriona Gray of the Philippines became the winner. She is the second competitor from South Africa to place as the first runner-up in the history of South Africa’s participation in the Miss Universe competition after Leticia Snyman did so at Miss Universe in 1984. When she became top five, Steve Harvey posed a question to her on her point f view on whether countries should limit the number of refugees allowed across their borders. Her response was, “…I think that every country should have its own rules and regulations, but for a thriving society and for all of us to stand together, we have to understand that we are all human and that we are more alike than we are not. So, we should be open to loving each other, and accepting each other. It doesn’t matter where we come from…” During the final round, each contestant was posed with the same question: “What is the most important lesson you’ve learned and how will you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?” She replied, “Throughout my life, I’ve been exposed to both those who are privileged and underprivileged and what I learned is we are all human. We all want to be loved, we all want to belong, and we all want to be seen so we should treat each other that way.”
On August 9, 2019, she handed over her crown to Zozibini Tunzi as she succeeded her as Miss South Africa 2019. She went to study at New Orleans Secondary School in Paarl and proceeded to study medicine at the University of Cape Town and graduated with a degree in medicine in 2019.
