Tyrell Cohen was the twin brother of Bears RB Tarik Cohen. Tarik is an American football running back for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). Tarik has played the same position for North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University before being selected in the fourth round of the 2017 National Football League Draft. Tyrell was born and grew up in Franklin County and he went to study at Bunn High School in his hometown of Bunn, North Carolina. Later on, he proceeded to graduate from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.

According to authorities, he was found dead at a North Carolina electrical substation on Sunday, May 9, 2021. The News & Observer reports that Tyrell Antar Cohen, brother of running back Tarik Cohen, is believed to have died by electrocution while trying to climb power equipment, according to Wake County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Eric Curry.
He was reported missing on Saturday night after he failed to return home. A spokesman with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office told WRAL Cohen was involved in a single-car crash near I-540 and Six Forks Road at 2 a.m. Saturday. Officers with Raleigh Police Department say he ran from the scene and investigators could not find him. They continued their search Sunday morning after family members filed a police report when Cohen didn’t return home.
The Chicago Bears issued a statement late Sunday, May 9, 2021 night, offering condolences to the Cohen family. “We are heartbroken to learn of the death of Tarik Cohen’s twin brother, Tyrell,” the statement said. “Our immediate thoughts and prayers go out to Tarik, his mother, Tilwanda, and the rest of their family and loved ones. On behalf of the entire Bears family, we extend our most heartfelt sympathies to all who mourn his loss.”
