Martha Peaslee Levine is the ex-wife of Rachel Levine who is an American pediatrician and four-star admiral in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (PHSCC) who has been the United States assistant secretary for health since March 26, 2021. On October 19, 2021, Levine became the first openly transgender four-star officer in the nation’s eight uniformed services with her commission as a four-star admiral in the United States Public Health Service. She is the first female four-star admiral in the PHSCC.
Martha is an associate professor of pediatrics, psychiatry, and humanities at Penn State Milton S Hershey Medical Center in Pennsylvania since 2005 according to her LinkedIn profile. She is also the director of the Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Eating Disorder Programs at the medical center.
Martha uses journaling techniques in individual and group therapy because, in her words, she finds that writing encourages self-discovery, self-acceptance, and improved self-confidence.
