Chris Ayres born Christopher Owen Ayres was an American actor, director, and scriptwriter. He was known for his work on Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’ (2015), Dragon Ball Z Kai (2009), and Dragon Ball Super: Broly (2018). He worked on voice acting and ADR directing on a number of English dubs of Japanese anime shows at Funimation, OkraTron 5000, New Generation Pictures, and Seraphim Digital / Sentai Filmworks.
He began his acting career at age six and has performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway as well as in numerous regional productions. He got his start voice acting at ADV Films on Kino’s Journey as an extra. In anime, he was known as the voice of Frieza from Dragon Ball Z Kai, Kei Kurono from Gantz, Prince Soma from Black Butler, and Shingen Takeda from the Sengoku Basara series. He was also known for Mock Combat for Cosplay panels at anime conventions.
He had his first professional acting job in a commercial for Lollipop Soft Drinks when he was six years old. His trademark was a full beard and glasses.

He passed on on October 18, 2021, at the age of 56, following years of complications from pulmonary disease. His death was announced on Twitter the following day by his girlfriend and fellow voice actress, Krystal LaPorte, and his friend and colleague, Sean Schemmel.
She wrote: “On October 18th at 8:40 pm, my world went dark.“Christopher Owen Ayres passed away peacefully, held close by his mother, brother, and girlfriend and his arm wrapped around his Atticus [pet cat] pillow.”
She added: “I have never been alive in a world where Chris wasn’t. I am scared of it. “So much of humanity’s kindness, compassion, gentleness, bravery, generosity, and integrity were concentrated in one man. Everything feels so much colder. I was always one-half of Krystal and Chris. I don’t want to be just Krystal, but I will do my damndest to try and see what you saw in me, and try to be what the world saw in you…”
