Anne Buydens was a German-born American producer, philanthropist, and sometimes an actress. She was a member of the International Best Dressed List from 1970 to 2021. She was the widow of actor Kirk Douglas, to whom she had been married for 65 years until his death in 2020. One of her first push into philanthropy came on the heels of recovering from breast cancer: With six fellow survivors, she went on to establish “Research for Women’s Cancers”, which raised millions of dollars to assist in financing a research center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center located in Los Angeles.
With her late husband, they were behind the establishment of “Harry’s Haven”, an Alzheimer’s disease unit at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Home in Woodland Hills, which is named after Kirk Douglas’s father. The pair were known for their efforts to rebuild playgrounds in the Los Angeles Unified School District. In 2017, with her husband, they published a book about their decades-long romance titled “Kirk and Anne: Letters of Love, Laughter, and a Lifetime in Hollywood.”
