Abigail Burdess is a comedy writer/performer for television, radio, and stage. She is known for That Mitchell and Webb Look (2006), The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff (2011), and Cuckoo (2012).
Her TV writing credits include the new series of Tracy Ullman’s Show on BBC1, Watson and Oliver (BBC2), the BAFTA-nominated Sorry I’ve Got No Head (CBBC), and the BAFTA-winning That Mitchell & Webb Look (BBC2).
Her writing for radio includes a pilot for her own show: Abi Hour on BBC Radio 4, Lucy Montgomery’s Variety Bucket (R4), and That Mitchell and Webb Sound (R4). She also writes sitcoms, including a commission for BBC3. She has developed a new sitcom with Pozzitive Productions.
Her work for the stage includes All The Single Ladies, which toured nationally in 2012. Abigail’s first musical as lyricist and book-writer: Fabulous Creatures, a feminist fairy-tale for theatre company The Ruby Dolls, premiered at the Riverside Studios and Assembly Rooms in 2014. It was part of the Camden People’s Theatre’s ‘Calm Down Dear’ festival. She has also authored a new play: Cheating, a short version of which was staged at the Arcola.
Abigail sometimes writes with Cicely Giddings, including for Tracy Ullman, Friends Like These for Woman’s Hour (R4), and sketches for BBC online as well as many live comedy shows. She is also a gag-writer and stand-up, providing additional material for the British Comedy Award-nominated The Two Faces of Mitchell and Webb. Her short film The Mourners won Best Screenplay at the San Francisco Short Film Festival 2003.

The pair met on the set of a radio sketch show – The Bleak Old Shop. The couple lives together in Kilburn, London.
