Ahmad Bajjey is an award-winning American meteorologist and communications professional. He joined CBS News Detroit | CBS 62 | CW50 in July 2022 and serves as the network’s meteorologist. He was formerly employed by Sinclair Broadcast Group and forecasted on weekday evenings as Mid-Michigan NOW’s Evening Meteorologist. His presence on television was on Monday through Friday evenings at 5 pm, 6 pm, and 11 pm on NBC25 and at 10 pm on FOX66. Additionally, he is an adjunct part-time professor at Central Michigan University since August 2019. He has been presented with a number of awards and accolades. Some of the awards are for Best Weathercast by the Associated Press and the Michigan Association of Broadcasters.
His interest in weather developed very fast. When he was younger, a large storm system moved through southeast Michigan and pummeled the Detroit area, with lightning hitting so close to his home that it turned a tree on his street into splinters. On that day he fell in love with the weather and watching meteorologists such as Chuck Gaidica and Paul Gross on WDIV in Detroit helped him decide the broadcasting route was best for him.
He graduated from Central Michigan University and supports his former school with a strong passion. He was selected as one of 2019 10 Within 10, a selection of 10 exceptional graduates from the past decade. To him, Michigan is the best place to be a meteorologist due to the usual 4 distinct seasons, therefore, a chance to experience everything from tornadoes to blizzards. His career in Mid-Michigan has brought him from tornado damage paths in Shiawassee, Genesee, and Saginaw counties, to covering heavy floods in Sanford and Midland, and even chasing tornadoes through Shiawassee County and being one of the first on the scene. He also loves being able to visit schools and share his passion for weather with students.
He has membership in both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society and has won multiple awards for Leadership. He is also an active supporter of the National Marrow Donor Program to fight Leukemia, Special Olympics Michigan, and the American Cancer Society and is a huge supporter of keeping the arts in our public schools.
