Anne Korbel Albright is an American Associate Judge at Montgomery County Circuit Court in Montgomery County in Maryland, 6th Judicial Circuit, since January 19, 2012. She was appointed to the court by Governor Martin O’Malley on December 22, 2011, to replace Durke G. Thompson, and was elected to a full term in November 2012. Her current term ends in 2027. Early on in her legal career as a public defender, she worried her mother a bit about her cases. “Mom was horrified,” Anne said in 2009 when asked about her work as a public defender and the “rough business” of it all. She also shared a story about calling her mother to let her know she was going to be late to meet her for dinner and simply said “I’m going to be late… I’m in jail.” Over time, Anne shared, her mom “got used to that answer.”
She ran unopposed for her appointed seat on the 6th Circuit Court. She was successful in her bid, receiving 36.2 percent of the vote. The three candidates with the highest vote percentages were elected in the race. Anne studied law at Dartmouth College. She also attended Georgetown University Law Center, J.D., cum laude. In 1987, she became the managing editor, American criminal law review, 1986 to 1987. She went ahead to be admitted to Maryland Bar, in 1987; District of Columbia Bar, 1991; Washington Bar, 1991.
