Dr. Joel Rindelaub is an academic researcher, athlete, author, and actor. He is a contestant in Celebrity Treasure Island 2022. The show premiered on September 5, 2022, and the winner will receive NZ$100,000 for the charity of their choice. Celebrity Treasure Island is aired on TVNZ 2 and TVNZ+ from Monday to Wednesday at 7:30 pm. His charity of choice is House of Science NZ which aims to raise scientific literacy in New Zealand by building confidence and capability in science learning.
According to his bio on LinkedIn, he is a Ph.D. chemist with a demonstrated history of working in applications of mass spectrometry, chromatography, and spectroscopy. His research investigates current issues in environmental science, air quality, and forensics. Rindelaub is an aerosol chemist from the University of Auckland. As a science communicator the mulleted, mustached scientist may be a familiar face on TV as the go-to expert on aerosols and face masks during our Covid-19 pandemic. He is also an experienced writer, athlete, and actor in the TV/film industry. He is serving as a research fellow at the Univerity of Auckland since May 2017.
Prior to being a researcher, he has been an actor model for Icarus Talent a role he upholds to date. He is also part of the Botany Swarm (NZIHL) team serving as an athlete. Other jobs that he has ventured in include working as a freelance writer for Paste Magazine, principal scientist for Pace Analytical Life Sciences in Oakdale, Minnesota, United States, and a research assistant for Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana United States. He undertook his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics at Gustavus Adolphus College and pursued his doctorate degree at Purdue University graduating and being honored with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), in Analytical Chemistry.
