Justin Narayan is a youth pastor and chef from Western Australia. He is the winner of Season 13 of MasterChef Australia. He was declared the winner and crowned the title MasterChef on July 13, 2021. Justin won the title and $250 000. He was a cast member and grand finalist of the 18th season of Australia’s cooking show MasterChef Australia (2021). He draws his inspiration from chefs like Gaggan Anand and Gordon Ramsay. According to his bio on Network Ten, he started cooking at the age of 13 and loves being inspired by the produce at hand to create memorable meals. He has always loved witnessing how his food can make people feel. In 2017, he travelled to India and was fascinated with its culture, history, people and of course, its food. He describes his skills as versatile in the kitchen, has a strong understanding of Indian flavours and will gravitate towards savoury over sweet.
Having worked as a youth pastor to help create a fun and safe community for teenagers, Justin has made a number of adjustments to go after his culinary dreams, resigning from his job to fully commit. He has also put his Masters’ study on hold to try his luck in the MasterChef kitchen. He expressed that he would love to one day have a food truck or restaurant featuring the Indian flavours he grew up eating, where some profits would go to helping feed and educate children living in the slums of India.
Having wowed the judges right off the bat with his version of his mum’s chicken curry, Justin is confident in handling pressure and thinks his ability to find the fun in most situations will come in handy in the MasterChef kitchen.

He is in a relationship and is engaged to his fiancée Esther. Shortly after his win, he got married to Esther in a ceremony that was attended by several of his MasterChef co-stars. In an interview with TV WEEK, he said, “It was genuinely the best day of my life; winning MasterChef was awesome but getting married was a huge highlight – it’s been a crazy year, so who knows what’s next.”
