Linda Powell is an American actress and the daughter of the late Colin Powell who was an American politician, diplomat, statesman, and four-star general who served as the 65th United States Secretary of State from 2001 to 2005. Her father died on October 18, 2021, while undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He died of complications from COVID-19 at the age of 84. His funeral service took place on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the Washington National Cathedral.
He was the first African-American Secretary of State. Prior to the election of Barack Obama as president in 2008, he and his successor, Condoleezza Rice, were the highest-ranking African Americans in federal executive branch history (by virtue of the Secretary of State standing fourth in the presidential line of succession). He served as the 16th United States National Security Advisor from 1987 to 1989 and as the 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1989 to 1993.
Linda has had a long career of supporting roles in film and television. She made her debut with the New York Philharmonic in April 2003 in the role of Hero, in the concert staging of Berlioz’s opera Beatrice and Benedict. Her most notable roles being Ingrid Mills on Chicago Fire, Pauline Samson in the television mini-series Political Animals, and a lawyer in the film Blue Caprice.
She has also worked extensively in the theater, starring on Broadway in revivals of Wilder, Wilder, Wilder, and On Golden Pond, and off-Broadway in productions of A Raisin in the Sun, Angela’s Mixtape, and The Christians. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the College of William & Mary in Virginia and studied theater at the Circle in the Square Theatre School.
