Pete Gallivan is an American news anchor. He co-anchors a show known as Daybreak at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, New York. Besides being an anchor, he is the producer of a feature that airs weekly popularly known as “Unknown Stories of WNY”, that puts into perspective local history. His career as a broadcaster began in 1987 at a small, day-timer radio station in Brockport. Some of his early works included sales, disc jockeyed, and eventually became News Director at WASB. From Brockport, his general career saw stops on local radio in Warsaw, Canandaigua, and Rochester. He discovered his passion for visual storytelling while in Rochester working as a reporter at WHEC-TV and later WROC-TV. Since then, he has continued being a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor, and Daybreak anchor.
He went to school at the Buffalo Public Schools and graduated from the Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts. When he completed high school, he proceeded on to The College at Brockport, and he majored in Communications as indicated in his LinkedIn. At Brockport, he was also a two-sport athlete that is hockey and soccer. As a reporter, his work has won 2 NYS Emmys, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and an Associated Press Award. He was also part of the Daybreak team that won an Emmy for best morning newscast. He took over the Daybreak co-anchor position alongside Melissa Holmes. He had been in that position alongside Jodi Johnston before John Beard replaced him in 2009 and has been a fill-in anchor during Beard’s vacations. Gallivan left the station for a job in state government in the year 2013 and returned months later where he had to fill a variety of roles since his return.
