Roselinda Soipan Tuya is a Kenyan citizen who has been appointed by President William Ruto as the cabinet secretary for Environment and Forestry. Her appointment was made on September 27, 2022. Her name was forwarded to the national assembly where she underwent vetting on October 19, 2022, and was approved.

Hon. Soipan holds a Degree in Law from the University of Nairobi. She graduated in 2002 and later in 2010 earned her Master of Law (LLM) in International Sustainable Development from the University of Washington, USA.

She has served in different capacities for various government and civil society organizations, including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Kituo cha Sheria, and the former Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, as a United Nations Volunteer Specialist.

Having had an interest in politics, she prepared for this by working at the grassroots with the aim of doing more for women. Overcoming propaganda and discrimination due to her age, she went on to win the Women’s Representative elections by a landslide. Hon. Soipan chairs the Parliamentary Implementation Committee. She intends to lobby for Bills that enhance dispute mechanisms through which legal redress can address land and family disputes while being gender sensitive.

She is the daughter of former Narok South Member of Parliament, Samson Ole Tuya. She describes herself as privileged and having had opportunities that are not easily accessible to women in her Maasai community. According to womenaspirants-kenya, Hon. Soipan was brought up in a community where girls are marginalized and where culture was an impediment to progress.

She was fortunate to join school even though it was in a rural area, allowing her to work hard and make a lasting impact within her community. Her mother had no formal education and her father, who was the only one among 15 siblings to attend school and later became a teacher and area MP is her greatest motivation.

In October 2023, she moved to court to seek Kenyan shillings 425,000 from her ex-husband for school fees and maintenance for their two children. She is also seeking to block her ex-husband to be blocked from accessing her home, children, and the children’s school.

Tuya alleges that owing to the abusive nature of Stephen, she, her children, and their domestic servants have been living in fear. I ner cour papers she claims she believes her ex-husband is a threat to her wellbeing, her children, and her workers.
