Susan Wafula is the cabinet secretary nominee for the Ministry of Health docket. She was appointed by the President of Kenya William Ruto on September 27, 2022. Upon vetting and approval, she will be the next cabinet secretary in charge of health in Kenya. She will take after the outgoing cabinet secretary, Mutahi Kagwe.
Following her appointment, she tweeted, “I thank HE WilliamsRuto for giving me the greatest honor&privilege to serve my country as a Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Health. I will serve the people of Kenya with the greatest humility &utmost dedication to ensure we achieve our quest for a better health care.”
Susan’s career began with her diploma studies in Pharmacy at the Kenya Medical Training College. She additionally undertook another diploma in Healthcare Management at the Kenya Institute of Management between 2005-2006 scoring a Distinction. She proceeded to Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture And Technology (JKUAT) and pursued a bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Management. Following that, she did a Master of Science degree in Procurement and Logistics, Logistics, Materials, and Supply Chain Management still in JKUAT. She is set to complete her Ph.D. in Business Management, Operations Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Research, Procurement, and Logistics.
She has worked at several healthcare firms like AAR Healthcare, Kenya Medical Supplies Agency, Nairobi Women’s Hospital, and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). According to her LinkedIn bio, she is a seasoned supply chain professional with more than 15 years of global and multicultural experience in agile and intelligent supply chains and operations in the healthcare industry. The disclosure of the cabinet came shortly after he held his inaugural cabinet meeting with outgoing cabinet secretaries who served under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
